Our Story

Saddleworth Amateur Swimming Club (SASC) is based at Uppermill Swimming Pool is at the heart of our community. The club was established more than 30 years ago with the aim of developing local swimmers, getting more swimmers in the water, building and engendering a life-long love of the sport.

The club is part of the elite athlete pathway where talented swimmers are identified and encouraged to develop their swimming as far as possible including; regional, national & international competition standards. Over the years we have had a number of Olympic and Commonwealth games athletes as members of the club; Jess Lloyd, who swam in the 2012 London Olympics and Ben Procter who swam in the 2012 London Paralympics being just two recent examples.

The club competes in local gala leagues and runs a number of internal competitions. Additionally we encourage our members to take part in open galas, triathlons & other swimming events.

The club was recently awarded the Swim21 national standard by Swim Mark demonstrating our commitment to being an effective, ethical & sustainable club.

Safeguarding

To help clubs with child welfare Swim England produce 'Wavepower' child safeguarding policies and procedures.

Wavepower must be adopted by all Swim England affiliated clubs and organisations. The latest version and can be viewed below.

The aim of Wavepower is to safeguard all children in line with current legislation, regulations and guidance and is for use within any Swim England affiliated organisation where children are present.

Wavepower consistently emphasises that the responsibility for child safeguarding in our sport belongs with all those involved in our sports and is not the sole responsibility of any one person at local, county or national level.

When updates or changes take place either in Swim England or through statute or governmental guidance these will be published on the website.

You can download the fully interactive Wavepower. It is in PDF format. Alternatively, you can read it online. If it doesn’t load after a few seconds please refresh the page.

You can find out more about Safeguarding, Welfare and how to report a concern at Swim Englands 'Home of Aquatics' webpage
